Schefter Dominates NFL Free Agency Coverage, Earns Praise From Fellow Writers

ESPN’s Adam Schefter in reporting on NFL free agency "had as good a week as I can remember in this business, breaking story after story of who was signing where," according to Peter King of THE MMQB. This is a "rivalry business, naturally, but you’ve got to tip your hat to a man who is so on top of his game, and Schefter certainly is" (MMQB.SI.com, 3/17). SI.com's Richard Deitsch wrote Schefter last week had "one of the best weeks of his career." Schefter said, "It never stopped all week. Every night last week that I went back to the Bristol hotel, I thought and hoped maybe this will be the night I get some rest. ... When it comes to the NFL, but especially in weeks of firings and hirings, free agency and the draft, there is no punching out on the clock." Schefter when asked how competitive he is with other NFL-news outlets said, "You're aware of them, of course, but you're just trying to dig in and do the best job that you can. We have such a great and deep team with so many people chipping in on a week like this." Schefter noted his boss, ESPN NFL Senior Coordinating Producer Seth Markman, is who drives him professionally. Schefter said of Markman, "He knows how to push my buttons. Before free agency every year, he gives me a list of players and the stories he wants me to get" (SI.com, 3/16).
