NBC To Carry USA Gymnastics Events Through Run-Up To '16 Rio Games

NBC Sports Group and Universal Sports Network have committed to carry USA Gymnastics events through '16, which includes events that will be part of the run-up to the Rio Games. The deal does not involve a rights fee. USA Gymnastics gets to activate its sponsors around the telecasts. NBC's relationship with USA Gymnastics goes back to '97. "We have grown to be synonymous with one another," said USA Gymnastics President Steve Penny. "This relationship has worked out at a very high level for us." NBC will carry events like the AT&T American Cup and P&G Championships on both its broadcast network and NBCSN. Universal Sports Network will carry the Nastia Liukin Cup. "This is consistent with our Olympic commitment," said NBC Sports Group President of Programming Jon Miller. "Gymastics is a cornerstone Olympic property." The deal has a big digital component. NBC's coverage will be available via NBC Sports Live Extra and Universal Sports will make a web simulcast available for its coverage.
