| | SILVER: TED LIGETY -- The '06 Turin Gold Medalist won the giant slalom yesterday, giving the U.S. its first alpine skiing Gold of these Games. After a slow start in Sochi, Ligety certainly picked a good time to wake up, which no doubt pleased Vicks considering how much the P&G brand has pushed the dual NyQuil/DayQuil spots featuring Ligety throughout the Games. |
| | BRONZE: LIBERTY MUTUAL -- Nice nimble ad work by the insurance company. After receiving a random tweet about injured U.S. skier Heidi Kloser, Liberty Mutual's creative team acted on the idea, signed Kloser and her parents, filmed the 30-second spot and got it on NBC's primetime coverage in barely more than a week. Good work. |
| | TIN: TEAM RUSSIA HOCKEY -- After all the buildup of how Russia just had to win the hockey Gold Medal on its home soil and all the ridiculous "Miracle on Ice" hype around a simple group-play game against the U.S. last weekend, the Russians did not even make it out of the quarterfinals, losing to Finland 3-1. Good thing Russia still is not under the old Soviet regime, because this would not have been a good thing. |
