Marketplace Roundup

GOLFWEEK's Adam Schupak reported with Tiger Woods "pursuing some of golf's biggest records," Nike already has "begun planning how to celebrate those milestones." Nike Golf President Cindy Davis said that even though "some of those celebrations may be three, five, or even 10 years in the making, it hasn't stopped her team from developing the creative." The division "started working on it last year." Davis at the PGA Merchandise Show "guarded that plan like high-level state secrets, but did let slip that the number 83 'is a big deal,'" alluding to the fact that Woods is four wins away from breaking Sam Snead's record of 82 PGA Tour wins (GOLFWEEK.com, 1/22).

SUPER SWAG: In New Jersey, Andrew Wyrich reports big retailers in the northern part of the state, such as Modell's Sporting Goods, Dick's Sporting Goods and Sports Authority, "are flush with generic Super Bowl gear for fans looking to buy cold-weather clothing emblazoned with this year's Super Bowl logo." However, finding specific player jerseys "might prove to be more difficult, because larger retailers are focusing on their Manhattan-based locations, where the tourists are." Local sporting goods stores also are "prevented from selling the apparel because of licensing issues" (Bergen RECORD, 1/23).

MOC SPEED: The Univ. of Tennessee-Chattanooga has signed a five-year deal with adidas to make the brand its official all-sports apparel provider, beginning with the '14-15 academic year. The school has several existing apparel contracts that must remain in place beyond the '14-15 season, but both men's and women's basketball will begin wearing adidas next season. The deal is UTC's first all-sports apparel deal. Terms were not disclosed (UTC).
