Get Back: Candlestick Officials Hoping Paul McCartney Show Serves As Venue's Finale

Candlestick Park officials "remained hopeful" yesterday that Paul McCartney would "sing the 'Stick's swan song before the wrecking ball strikes the place down" late next year, according to Daniel Brown of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. S.F. Parks & Rec Dept. GM Phil Ginsburg said, "Keep your fingers crossed. It's a possibility." Brown notes Candlestick Park was the site of the Beatles' final concert in '66, and the Dec. 23 Falcons-49ers game likely "will be the last NFL game ever played" at the venue. But Candlestick Park "won't be demolished until at least a year from now." While seats "are for sale as souvenirs, they will remain intact until about this time next year." Parks & Rec officials said that "plenty more events 'large and small' are on tap through 2014." McCartney "expressed interest while in San Francisco to play the Outside Lands festival in August" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 12/18).
