McDaniel yesterday said that he has been "screened by an executive" at Chicago-based exec search firm Reilly Partners. NBPA interim Exec Dir RON KLEMPNER in an e-mail wrote that the selection process "is under way and declined further comment" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 11/18).
ACT LIKE A TOURIST: The state of New York yesterday gave $5M to the N.Y./N.J. Super Bowl Host Committee "to encourage visitors to see New York-area attractions, boost interest among local fans and entertain journalists." Half of the funds "will go toward the Super Bowl Boulevard" fan attraction in Times Square, while $1M "will be used for a touring vehicle that will make 24 stops" in the N.Y. area to promote the game. Also, $500,000 each will be "spent on advertising, a media party for 5,000, and volunteer expenses" (NEWSDAY, 11/19).
ZEKE THE BUILDER: Basketball HOFer ISIAH THOMAS in November "made his first foray into investment real estate" by buying a six-story, 20-unit apartment building in Evanston, Ill., for $7.3M. Thomas is now seeking investment opportunities "in far more distressed areas of Chicago." Thomas said that he is "looking at properties on the city's West Side to purchase or refurbish." Thomas is CEO of River North-based Isiah Int'l Co., whose holdings "include private equity, waste removal, film production and even gourmet popcorn."
