Sporting News named Red Sox GM BEN CHERINGTON its Exec of the Year as voted on by a panel of 31 MLB execs (Sporting News). Cherington is the third member of the Red Sox to win the award, joining late GM DICK O'CONNELL in '67 and '75 and late Owner TOM YAWKEY in '46. Cherington said, "It's definitely unexpected. ... I think it just speaks to the hard work that a lot of people have done" (BOSTON HERALD, 11/12).

ON THE SLATE: The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER’s Stuart Kemp noted the first image from “PELE,” the drama about the legendary Brazilian soccer player written and directed by MICHAEL and JEFF ZIMBALIST, has been “unleashed as the cameras roll in Rio de Janeiro.” The still captures actor LEONARDO LIMA CARVALHO, who portrays Pele from ages 10-13, “playing with a soccer ball made of socks in the alleys of Bauru, Sao Paulo, where he grew up.” VINCENT D'ONOFRIO, RODRIGO SANTORO, DIEGO BONETA, COLM MEANEY and SEU JORGE star in the film, which is being produced by Imagine Entertainment and Seine Pictures (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 11/11).

NAMES: Ravens coach JOHN HARBAUGH yesterday was presented with the Amos Alonzo Stagg Coaching Award in recognition of the team's Super Bowl XLVII win (BALTIMORESUN.com, 11/11). Harbaugh will be at Miami (Ohio) Univ.'s Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio on April 18 "to see the dedication of his statue in the Cradle of Coaches Plaza." Harbaugh's statue will be the 10th at the plaza (CINCINNATI.com, 11/8)....NASCAR Chair & CEO BRIAN FRANCE and his wife AMY earlier this week “made a personal donation of $50,000 to help wounded military members at the ‘Stand Up For Heroes’ benefit” at MSG (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 11/12)....The U.S. Fund for UNICEF yesterday announced that Knicks C TYSON CHANDLER is the newest UNICEF Ambassador.
