Overnight Ratings: CBS' LSU-UGA Tops College Football; MLS Goes Up Against NFL

A strong schedule of college football games in Week 5 was led by CBS’ LSU-Georgia telecast in the 3:30pm ET window on Saturday, with the matchup earning a 4.9 overnight rating. The same Week 5 window last year featured Tennessee-Georgia and earned a 2.8 rating. ABC finished second with a 4.1 overnight for Wisconsin-Ohio State in primetime. Oklahoma’s defeat of Notre Dame earned NBC a 2.8 overnight in the 3:30pm window. NBC aired an MLS match opposite NFL coverage yesterday afternoon, earning a 0.3 overnight. The net had an EPL match on Saturday afternoon (Swansea-Arsenal), and that match drew an audience around double the size of the MLS game. On cable, ESPN topped all sports telecasts for the weekend with Alabama’s 25-0 win over Ole Miss on Saturday night (2.4 overnight). That figure topped the net’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race yesterday afternoon from Dover Int’l Speedway. However, the NASCAR telecast’s 2.2 overnight was up slightly from a 2.1 rating last year.

The chart below lists overnight ratings from weekend sports telecasts on broadcast TV.
