Cowboys' DeMarcus Ware Goes "Above And Beyond" For Companies He Endorses

Cowboys DE DeMarcus Ware is a "pitchman extraordinaire" and has become "the man when national sponsors look to the Cowboys," according to Barry Horn of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. His roster of endorsements includes Kimberly-Clark's Depend disposables, Red Bull, Nationwide Insurance, Papa John's, Reebok and GMC trucks. Atlanta-based Sports Trust Advisers VP/Marketing Kevin McGuire, who reps Ware, said that just last week the NFLer "turned down two six-figure promotional opportunities." McGuire added that a "deal with AT&T is in the works." Ware "comes off as a gentle giant much like Shaquille O'Neal in front of cameras." Ware asks for "any information he might need relative to a photo or video shoot be sent to him two weeks in advance." He pores over "what he will be asked to do as if it was a game plan." Ware said, "Then when I walk in the door, I know what I am doing. I feel like I am part of the team from the day I meet everyone." Red Bull Athlete Marketing Manager Hans Stolfus said that the company "met with several athletes in Dallas before concluding it wanted a Cowboy." He added, "We thought it would be an offensive player, a quarterback, wide receiver or running back. But then we met DeMarcus." Stolfus: "Mainstream athletes are mostly prima donnas. DeMarcus is not like that. Never once has he told us he couldn't do something for us. We freakin' love him." Depend Brand Dir Elizabeth Metz said that the company has "been so pleased with Ware that it didn't hesitate to re-sign him as a spokesman when his first contract expired." She added, "DeMarcus has gone above and beyond. People have specifically called him out in our research as a reason to have no shame" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/22).
