WNBA Sees Small Attendance Uptick After Record-Low Figure Last Season

WNBA teams averaged 7,531 fans per game during the '13 regular season, up slightly from a record-low figure last year. This year's attendance still ranks as the league's third-lowest figure since its inception in '97. No team averaged over 10,000 fans per game -- a first for the league since '08, an Olympic year. The Sparks led all teams for the second straight season with 9,869 fans per game, a figure that was down 3% from last season. The addition of rookie Elena Della Donne helped the Sky see a league-best 18% jump at the gate. Fellow top rookies Brittney Griner and Skylar Diggins helped their respective clubs -- the Mercury and Shock -- each see strong gains. The Sun saw the sharpest drop among all clubs, down around 10% at the gate. Also down were the Mystics (-9%), who finished sixth in attendance after leading the league in '11 (THE DAILY).
