The Little League World Series World Championship yesterday, which saw Japan defeat a team from Chula Vista ,Calif., earned a 2.6 overnight rating on ABC, up 24% from the championship last year. Saturday’s Japan-Mexico Int’l Championship earned a 1.6 overnight, up from a 1.4 for Japan-Panama last year, while the U.S. Championship between Chula Vista and Westport, Conn., earned a 2.2 overnight, flat compared to ’12. Meanwhile, ABC earned a 3.2 overnight for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Irwin Tools Night Race from Bristol Motor Speedway, down from a 3.5 for the same race last year. CBS yesterday aired the final round of The Barclays PGA Tour event, which saw Adam Scott win the event. The telecast earned a 3.7 overnight, marking the best for the event’s final round since it became part of the FedExCup Playoffs in ’07. Saturday’s 2.2 overnight for the third round was also the best since ’07. Vikings-49ers on NBC yesterday topped all weekend sports telecasts with a 5.8 overnight. CBS’ Seahawks-Packers on Friday night earned a 4.9 overnight, which is tied for the net’s best preseason overnight since ’02. ESPN earned a 0.3 overnight for last night’s MLS Timbers-Sounders game, which featured the Seattle debut for Sounders F Clint Dempsey.
