  • Asia Is Top Region For EPL TV Distribution, While U.S. Sports Fan Interest Still Low

The '13-14 EPL season begins Saturday, and the league saw the largest distribution for its TV audience in Asian nations, according to the most recent data from the league during its ’11-12 season. Around 31% of the league’s global audience distribution was in Asia two seasons ago, while 23% was in Europe (outside of the U.K.). Only 4% of the audience was in North America and the Caribbean. Meanwhile, data from U.K.-based research firm Populus showed that during the ’11-12 season, 24% of U.S. sports fans were “very interested” or “interested” in soccer, marking the lowest rate among the 30 regions measured. Just 14% of fans were “very interested” or “interested” in the EPL. Only Turkey and Germany had lower levels of interest in the EPL.
