SI Website "The MMQB" To Debut On Monday As Company Continues To Build On Franchises

The debut next Monday of the SI website “The MMQB,” headed by NFL writer Peter King, "represents the latest step in an effort over the past two years by SI to increase the breadth and depth of its franchises," according to Eric Fisher of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. The site "represents an expansion of many of the features already seen with King's content on" King’s Monday morning column "will now reside" on the site, and "extensive links and promotion on and other SI and Time Inc. assets will direct users toward the new site." A component of that column called "10 Things I Think I Think" will "break out into its own daily feature with other writers also involved." Long-form stories and profiles will "frequently arrive with companion video segments providing additional behind-the-scenes content." SI senior writer Don Banks will "contribute a weekly column titled 'The Conscience.'" Writer Greg Bedard will "file a weekly, extended notes column that will appear on Fridays." The site overall will be "more focused on analysis and features than breaking news" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 7/15 issue). In L.A., Joe Flint reported while SI will own, King "got involved in the business side as well, even meeting with potential advertisers." Journalists "don't normally embrace the idea of meeting with advertisers, but King found it insightful and he was surprised by how much they wanted to know about the content and audience." The site's "flagship advertisers" include Microsoft and Gillette (, 7/17).
