Overnight Ratings: Belmont Stakes On NBC Sees 15% Drop From '12 Race

NBC earned a 4.6 overnight Nielsen rating for the race segment of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday from 6:15-7:00pm ET, which saw Palace Malice win the final race in the Triple Crown. The 4.6 rating is down from a 5.4 overnight for last year’s race, which saw Triple Crown contender I’ll Have Another scratched the day before the event. The 4.6 overnight is also down slightly from a 4.8 rating in ’11. The Belmont Stakes last saw a Triple Crown contender run in ’08, when Big Brown finished in last place after pulling up due to a cracked hoof. That ’08 race drew a 10.5 overnight on ABC. Despite the drop, the race was the most-watched sporting event of the day.

NOTES: NBC also had its second live F1 broadcast of the season, with the Canadian Grand Prix drawing a 0.9 overnight on Sunday afternoon. That figure is up from a 0.8 rating for the same race on Fox last season. CBS earned a 2.1 overnight for the final round of the PGA Tour FedEx St. Jude Classic yesterday, up slightly from a 2.0 for the final round last year.
