Breeders' Cup Returning To Santa Anita For Record-Tying Eighth Time In '14

The Breeders' Cup today announced that its '14 event will take place at Santa Anita Park, marking the third straight year the L.A. track will host the meet. This year's races will be held Nov. 1-2. The '14 iteration will mark the eighth time Santa Anita has hosted the Breeders' Cup, tying it with Churchill Downs for the most. Officials indicated that no decisions have been made on host sites beyond '14 (Breeders' Cup). In L.A., Bill Dwyre notes Breeders' Cup CEO Craig Fravel was "careful to point out his board had made no determination on the series having a permanent home." That is something Santa Anita has "pushed for" since hosting the '09 event. Fravel said that the possibility of an "ongoing rotation of the event remained and he confirmed Belmont Park and Churchill continue as active bidders." Meanwhile, Fravel said that broadcast partner NBC "was happy with the weather and time slot presented by a late fall racing weekend in Southern California" (LATIMES.com, 6/10).
