Data Shows March Madness, MLB Season Led To Bump In Mobile Sports App Usage

The use of sports apps on mobile devices saw a big uptick among males coinciding with the start of March Madness and the leadup to the MLB season, according to data from a U.S. Arbitron Mobile Trends Panel conducted in March. Starting with the week of March 10, some 13.7% of males ages 18+ were using mobile sports apps. A previous panel found that in the two weeks following the Super Bowl on Feb. 3, use of mobile sports apps in the demo went from 12.9% to 10.0%. Among males, the most avid users of mobile sports apps are ages 35-44 (22.8% of users). That age demo also spent the most time with mobile sports apps -- 77.1 minutes per month. Men ages 25-34 checked sports apps most often, logging in for 42.1 sessions per month (Arbitron).
