Greensboro To Host '14 ACC Baseball Tourney; Conference Eyeing Site Rotations In Future

NewBridge Bank Park will host the ACC’s “new, expanded baseball tournament in 2014, the third time in five playings the event has come to Greensboro,” according to David Morrison of the Greensboro NEWS & RECORD. The ‘12 tournament “drew 52,926 fans in Greensboro last May, an average of 4,071 over 13 games.” ACC Commissioner John Swofford said that tournament sites have been “decided through next year only, and the league will be accepting bids over the next year for future sites.” Swofford added that schools “wanted to treat baseball tournament sites on a year-by-year basis until the ACC’s membership movement settles down.” He “hopes to start deciding four- or five-year rotations of sites, much like the ACC uses in basketball, in the near future” (Greensboro NEWS & RECORD, 4/18).

NEUTRAL ZONE: The Baltimore SUN reported PPL Park in Chester, Pa., “will host” the ACC men’s lacrosse tournament in ‘14 and ‘15. It will “mark the first time in eight years that the tournament has been held at a neutral site.” Next season will be “the fourth time in the 26-year history of the tournament that the event has been held at a neutral site” (BALTIMORESUN.com, 4/17).
