Boston-Based Tickets-For-Charity Expanding Nationally And Into Canada

A Boston-based company that "raises money for charity by selling donated and consigned tickets to music and sports events at market price is going national," according to Marie Szaniszlo of the BOSTON HERALD. Tickets-for-Charity CEO Jay Whitehead said, "Starting this month, our service goes national, and you’ll see sports and concert inventory in most states and Canada.” Started in '06, Tickets-for-Charity has raised $10M "for nonprofits by selling tickets to more than 75 of the biggest names in sports and entertainment." Half the proceeds "from the sale of a ticket goes to a charity of the ticket donor’s choice." An additional 25% "goes to a charity the buyer designates," while the rest "goes to various other charities, minus a $17 service fee." Tickets-for-Charity has "raised nearly" $1M for the Red Sox Foundation. The Foundation's interim Exec Dir Gena Borson said, “In these tough economic times, it’s hard to fundraise. They’ve provided another outlet for us to do that" (BOSTON HERALD, 2/17).
