Former Chiefs GM SCOTT PIOLI talked at length yesterday on “The Dan Patrick Show” about witnessing the suicide of Chiefs LB JOVAN BELCHER last December. Pioli said, “Surreal doesn’t even do it justice. It was unlike anything I’ve ever been through.” Host Dan Patrick asked, “Did you think, ‘What could we have done?’” Pioli: “Absolutely, if you're human, if you have a heart, if you have a conscience, and if you have a thoughtful mind, absolutely. When you sign an NFL contract to do a job, or you do any job, you never think that you're going to go through something like that.” He added, “The truth is that I haven’t made sense of it all. I don’t know if any one of us that were there will ever make sense of it because here’s the reality: every human being, I don’t care who you are, has these deep dark places. And even those you're most intimate with, you don’t know. Clearly there was something with Jovan that none of us knew” (“The Dan Patrick Show,” 1/29).

I’ve always been fascinated by his whole story before the recent events.” Cooper added that he answered the BBC host “very brazenly, ‘Yes, that would be great (to play Armstrong),’ and then all of a sudden this sort of firestorm” began over the comment (“CBS This Morning,” 1/30).
