Richmond Marathon Sees Immediate Spike In Registration After Cancelled N.Y. Marathon

Nearly 600 runners have "registered for Saturday's Anthem Richmond Marathon" since last Friday's cancellation of the ING N.Y. Marathon, according to Vic Dorr Jr. of the RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH. While it is "unlikely that all had previously intended to compete in New York, it seems certain that many had." Officials with race organizer Richmond Sports Backers said that "their telephones lit up as soon as the New York event was canceled." The surge of late entries has prompted the Sports Backers to "place a 6,500 cap on registration for their 26.2-mile race." Registration for this year's Richmond Marathon "has beaten the previous record by nearly 900" (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 11/6).
