The NFL and NFLPA on Thursday announced the two organizations jointly pledged $1M to the American Red Cross to aid in relief and recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The NBA and NBPA also announced a joint commitment of $1M to the American Red Cross and other organizations, including the Salvation Army, New York Cares and Jersey Cares, which are helping with the recovery efforts from Hurricane Sandy (THE DAILY). Fox will be "boosting its broadcasts throughout the weekend" with Red Cross PSAs during NFL and NBA games (VARIETY.com, 11/1). The N.Y. Road Runners on Thursday announced the creation of the "2012 ING New York City Marathon Race to Recover Fund." NYRR vowed to donate at least $1M, or $26.20 for each of the more than 40,000 runners expected to participate. JACK and SUSAN RUDIN and the Rudin Family Foundations also announced a donation of $1.1M while race title sponsor ING announced a $500,000 donation (NYRR).
