In Detroit, Bill Shea noted 5-hour Energy “got plenty of TV time Sunday during the final round of the 112th U.S. Open,” but it was “not exactly in the set of circumstances it might have preferred.” The energy drink is the “chief sponsor of golfer Jim Furyk, who led the Open going into Sunday before a stunning collapse over the final few holes.” His collapse “led to a stream of jokes in news stories and online.” CNBC’s Darren Rovell tweeted Sunday, "5-Hour Energy to come out with new product with Furyk on it: 3 Hour & 46 Minute Energy." A Boston.com blogger wrote, "Jim Furyk set back the cause of '5-Hour Energy' about 10 years by crumbling down the stretch" (CRAINSDETROITBUSINESS.com, 6/18).
