In San Antonio, Richard Oliver cited officials as saying yesterday that the departure of former Golf San Antonio President & CEO TONY PIAZZI "represents a major change for the organization and its signature event," the PGA Tour Valero Texas Open. In the wake of Piazzi's resignation, former Municipal Golf Association-San Antonio head REID MEYERS "has been named interim CEO." A permanent replacement for Piazzi, "who served as GSA's chief executive for nine years, is expected to be named by Sept. 1." A committee has been formed "for a nationwide search, with Valero Energy Corp. and the PGA Tour part of the exploration" (MYSANANTONIO.com, 6/5).

EXECS: The Hawks named MLS club Sporting K.C. Exec VP/Business Operations ANDREW STEINBERG Senior VP & Chief Revenue Officer. Steinberg will also oversee all sponsorship sales for Philips Arena (Hawks)....The Hurricanes promoted RON FRANCIS to VP/Hockey Operations and JASON KARMANOS to Exec VP & Assistant GM (Hurricanes)....Eddie Bauer has named former Hurley CEO MICHAEL EGECK President & CEO (OREGONLIVE.com, 6/5)....News Corp. and ESPN announced that ESPN Star Sports Managing Dir MANU SAWHNEY will transition his role to Fox Int'l Channels Senior VP PETER HUTTON as part of Fox buying ESPN's stake in the venture. Sawhney will stay with the company until Aug. 31 to facilitate the transition (ESPN)....The NBA Kings promoted ROBERT KINGSTON to Dir of Ticket Sales & Service (Kings)....The Lions hired NHL Manager of Cause Marketing & Community Relations ROB WOOLEY as Dir of Community Affairs & Detroit Lions Charities (Lions)....The Bears promoted MARTY BARRETT to Dir of College Scouting and CHRIS BALLARD to Dir of Pro Scouting (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 6/5)....Langston Univ. is expected to name former USC AD MIKE GARRETT to the same position (NEWSOK.com, 6/4).
