Louisville AD Says Athletic Department's Budget Is Best In His Tenure

The Univ. of Louisville athletic budget is “in about as good a shape as can be” as the Athletic Association BOD yesterday approved the transfer of $2M "from its endowment back to the university coffers to help fund employee salary increases,” according to C.L. Brown of the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL. UL AD Tom Jurich said, “It’s the best year that I’ve been able to preside over in the 15 years that I have been here.” He added that that expansion of the baseball team’s Jim Patterson Stadium “will begin immediately and a new soccer stadium and softball stadium expansion are in the planning stages.” However, UL and its proposed $71.5M budget for '12-13 "can only wait patiently while the conference alignment shell game plays out.” Jurich said, “We’ve done pretty much all that we can do. All our options are the ones you read about.” Brown notes although Jurich believes UL "would have an opportunity in the new playoff format, it doesn’t change the urgency of conference affiliation.” Jurich: “I think from our standpoint we have to look at what’s the best fit for us” (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 6/6).
