Boston Sets Local NFL TV Record With Super Bowl XLVI; Vegas Audience Down From '11

Boston topped all Nielsen metered markets for the Super Bowl XLVI telecast on NBC with a 56.7 local rating, marking the best ever NFL game rating in the market. That figure was ahead of the 55.6 rating in Boston for the last Super Bowl against the Giants in ’08, and also ahead of the 56.1 for the Patriots-Rams Super Bowl XXXVI, the previous local record. Host-market Indianapolis ranked second for Super Bowl XLVI with a 56.4 local rating, marking the second-highest Super Bowl host market rating ever, behind only Jacksonville, which earned a 58.9 rating for the Patriots-Eagles Super Bowl XXXIX. The N.Y. market earned a 49.7 local rating for the game, which ranked 19th among all metered markets. That figure marks the second-highest overnight ever for an NFL game in the market, behind only a 53.4 for the Giants-Broncos Super Bowl XXI, which was the Giants' first Super Bowl. The market earned a 44.9 for the Giants-Patriots Super Bowl XLII. Rounding out the top five for the Super Bowl XLVI telecast this year were Norfolk, Columbus and New Orleans. Las Vegas averaged a 49.3 rating for the game, down from a 49.7 for last year’s game (THE DAILY).
