  • Skiing, Hiking Top List Of Favorite Winter Sports Among Americans

Just over one in five American adults (21%) said that they have participated in some sort of winter sport, according to a Harris Poll study conducted on behalf of IMRE Sports. Participation in skiing (alpine, cross country) and hiking topped the list of winter sports with 8% of respondents saying they had participated at one time or another. Three percent said they had tried snowboarding, snowmobiling and ice fishing. Men were much more likely to participate in winter sports compared to women (28% vs. 14% of U.S. respondents). Research also showed that those describing themselves as “Midwesterners” were more likely to participate in winter sports (29%), compared to those from the West (22%) or Northeast (19%). In addition, significantly more people ages 18-34 (28%) and 35-44 (29%) said they participated in winter sports, compared to lower levels among those respondents ages 45-54 (18%) and 55+ (12%). The data was collected during an online survey taken among 2,292 U.S. adults from Dec. 19-21 (IMRE Sports).
