PGA Tour Talks To TaylorMade About New Ad That Contains Censored Expletive

PGA Tour Exec VP/Communications & Int’l Affairs Ty Votaw yesterday said that the Tour "discussed" with TaylorMade an ad for the company's new line of RocketBallz clubs in which golfer Sean O'Hair "makes an obviously profane remark after hitting a practice ball on the range with one of the new clubs," according to Steve Elling of CBSSPORTS.com. The ad "apparently didn't air on Monday night" during the final-round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions coverage on Golf Channel after appearing during coverage of earlier rounds. O'Hair in the ad "smiles broadly after smashing a shot and drops an F-bomb." The word is "bleeped out in the commercial, but the timber and tone are convincingly made clear." A Golf Channel spokesperson Monday night said that he was "unaware of any complaints logged from viewers about the spot." Elling noted while the language is "mostly implied, it's not exactly the content the tour tries to convey about its product." It is "unclear what sort of leverage the tour could apply if it ultimately wants the advertisement yanked for any reason" (CBSSPORTS.com, 1/9). It appears that TaylorMade has removed the ad from various online and social media sites (THE DAILY).

THE NEED FOR SPEED: Adams Golf has produced two new television ads that are slated to run on Golf Channel. The ads show golfer Kenny Perry endorsing Adams' new Speedline driver and fairway wood. The clubs are scheduled to be released on Jan. 26 (THE DAILY).
