Michigan Sets Single-Season FBS Attendance Record; Tennessee Lowest Since '96

The Univ. of Michigan once again set a single-season home football average attendance record this year, drawing 112,179 fans per game, according to data compiled by the NCAA. The mark was up from last year’s record-setting 111,825 per contest. The increase was fueled by the Sept. 10 home game against Notre Dame, which set an NCAA single-game record with 114,804 fans for the school’s first-ever night game at Michigan Stadium. Several other schools among the top 25 in average attendance also set records this season. Alabama tied its mark set last season, when it led the SEC in attendance for the first time in 37 years. LSU, Texas A&M and Oklahoma also set home records this season. Virginia Tech continued its sellout streak at Lane Stadium that dates back to ’98. But several other schools saw attendance drops this season. Penn State ranked fourth overall but had its lowest average since Beaver Stadium expanded in ’01. Tennessee saw its lowest average since expanding Neyland Stadium in ’96, while Florida’s attendance was its lowest since ’04. Georgia averaged 92,613 fans per game, ending the school’s six-year run of sellouts. While USC finished with the top attendance in the Pac-12, the average gate at L.A. Memorial Coliseum was the school’s lowest mark since ’02. Listed below are the top 25 schools in college football home attendance for the ’11 season (THE DAILY).
