Matthew Hulsizer Signs Purchase Agreement To Take Control Of Blues

Chicago businessman Matthew Hulsizer and the Blues "signed a purchase agreement Friday," according to sources cited by Jeremy Rutherford of the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Details "still need to be worked out, and the NHL must approve the deal, but it's the most significant step in the sale process since the franchise was put on the block by chairman Dave Checketts in March." Sources said that the delay in reaching a deal was "centered on the sale price and Checketts' role moving forward." Sources said that an approximate price tag for the package, which includes the Blues, the Scottrade Center lease, the AHL Peoria Rivermen and the Peabody Opera House, is "expected to be $185 million to $190 million." It appeared originally that Checketts "would remain with the organization in some capacity, but that appears less likely." He "still could be involved in the investment group, but even that is uncertain." Sources said that Hulsizer's investment group includes former Lightning co-Owner Oren Koules (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 10/29). The GLOBE & MAIL's David Shoalts noted Koules "does not have an agreement with Hulsizer yet but is expected to sign on shortly as a minority owner" (GLOBEANDMAIL.com, 10/29).
