Media Notes

In N.Y., Richard Sandomir cited sources as saying that Time Warner is “no longer demanding that the NFL Network be placed on a digital sports tier.” However, there has “never been a groundswell among fans demanding that the NFL Network and Time Warner reach a deal.” Time Warner and Cablevision, “with its three million subscribers in the New York area, are the only big holdouts.” But Cablevision's demand -- “that it get the popular Sunday Ticket satellite service that is exclusive to DirectTV -- is a nonstarter for the league” (N.Y. TIMES, 10/4).

COLLEGE SWEETHEART: MEDIA POST’s David Goetzl’s listed this month’s “Leaders & Bleeders” and has CBS Sports as the number five leader. Goetzl: “Production of SEC college football broadcasts continues to be outstanding. As a result CBS deserves some credit for helping make the league the best in the country of the past decade. …CBS might get its money’s worth Nov. 5 with coverage of LSU vs. Alabama, likely the country’s top-two teams. Downside: NFL great Peyton Manning likely out for the season, costing CBS some highly rated NFL games” (MEDIAPOST.com, 10/3).

MEDIA MADNESS: In Louisville, Kyle Tucker reported the Univ. of Kentucky's Big Blue Madness, which marks the men's basketball team's "first open practice of the preseason, will be broadcast on several stations around the state on Oct. 14.” UK IMG Sports Network “will televise the event live from 7-9:30 p.m. on WKYT in Lexington and WMYO in Louisville.”  The game will also “stream online for free at UKathletics.com and ESPN3.com,” and will be featured on ESPNU’s Midnight Madness special from 9:00pm-1:00am ET (COURIER-JOURNAL.com, 10/4).
