People & Personalities: Brian Kenny Makes His MLB Network Debut Monday

Kenny will make his MLB Network debut on Monday
USA TODAY's Michael McCarthy interviewed MLB Network's Brian Kenny, who will begin at the net Monday following 14 years with ESPN. Kenny said he will just be "one of the anchors, one of the hosts" at MLB Network. Kenny: "Whatever shows they want me to do, those are the shows I'll do." Kenny had become one of ESPN's main boxing analysts, and he said "there will be boxing in my future," but that is "to-be-determined at this point." A radio show is "a possibility as well." Kenny: "I'm concentrating on MLB Network and my TV job. That's my main job ... So sports talk radio could well be in my future. But I'm not overly concerned with that at this point" (USATODAY.com, 9/14).

TAKING SHOTS: In L.A., Lance Pugmire notes ESPN expanded its "Sunday NFL Countdown" show to three hours and asked Fox studio analyst Terry Bradshaw why fans should "watch your show instead?" Bradshaw: "We're better than everyone else. ... We're good friends here, and you see that. We don't have as much time, but I will tell you we all study huge stacks of (research) papers on each game. We're all making calls to guys in the league. We have that information in us and work it in with humor, some shots at each other -- it's ad-libbed, fast-paced. I don't want a three-hour pregame show. Our attitude is, 'Let's get to the point, entertain and get it out'" (L.A. TIMES, 9/16).

MONDAY NIGHT REPRIEVE: In L.A., Tom Hoffarth writes ESPN "MNF" analyst Ron Jaworski "thankfully ... won't get his jaw wired shut after dropping a four-letter word during the Patriots-Dolphins telecast" last Monday. Hoffarth: "If broadcasts already are on a delay because producers fear player cursing on the field might hit an open mike and corrupt America's youth, just bleep it out like everything else. Even better, air an alternate feed where an analyst we already respect like Jaws can do an HBO-approved commentary" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 9/16).

NEW ADDITIONS: The UFL Sacramento Mountain Lions have hired longtime NBA Kings announcer Grant Napear and former NFL coach Jerry Glanville to call the team's three home games this season, which "will be broadcast like on Comcast SportsNet California." Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a source said that the team and Comcast "will split advertising revenue" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 9/14).
