Dynamo Stadium In Houston On Schedule To Open May '12

The MLS Dynamo’s new stadium in downtown Houston is “starting to take shape and is on target to be complete” on May 5, 2012, according to Jose De Jesus Ortiz of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Within the next two months, “around 450 workers will start the finishing process, which includes painting, taping, and electrical and plumbing work.” It is already “clear the Dynamo’s intimate 22,000-seat facility will provide fans with a close view of the action.” Only eight rows of seats “separate the suite level from the wall leading to the pitch, and the Dynamo haven’t seen a closer view from the suite level at any other stadium in Houston or the country.” The stadium’s lone concourse also is “starting to take shape.” The facility's 36 suites “will be on the interior of the concourse,” and on the exterior side “they are building the block walls for what will be concession stands, bathrooms and utility closets.” Club officials hope to have “at least 40 events every 12 months at the new stadium, with 20 being Dynamo games and six being Texas Southern University football games.” Dynamo President Chris Canetti “vows to bid for the 2012 MLS Cup as soon as Major League Soccer opens up the bidding process” (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/16).
