Arizona State COO To Oversee Stadium Construction; Pay On Par With AD Lisa Love

Arizona State Univ. athletics department COO Steve Patterson, who was hired in July, will be the “point man for a construction of a new Sun Devil Stadium and other facilities projects,” according to Jeff Metcalfe of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Patterson will make “$335,000 annually, roughly the same as” ASU VP/Athletics Lisa Love, and he also will serve as Sun Devil Sports Group Managing Dir. In the “newly created position, he is expected to generate millions in revenue through sales, marketing, fund raising and donations.” It is estimated that ASU “will almost double its annual athletic revenue to $100 million within four years.” Patterson previously served as Texans Chief Development Officer and was “responsible for the design, finance and construction of Reliant Stadium.” Metcalfe writes Patterson's “extensive professional sports experience is valuable at a time when ASU will be rebuilding or renovating sports facilities.” ASU also hired Steve Webb last week as “executive director for athletics compliance,” and he “will make $92,000 per year” (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 8/31).
