Santa Anita Park Could Be Named Host Of '12 Breeders' Cup Next Week
Published August 4, 2011
There is "strong speculation the announcement of Santa Anita Park as the 2012 Breeders' Cup World Championships host site will be made" at an Aug. 10 luncheon in L.A., according to Esther Marr of BLOODHORSE.com. Breeders’ Cup President & CEO Craig Fravel said that invitations to the luncheon, hosted by the Breeders’ Cup and L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, "have been sent out to several Thoroughbred industry members and local politicians." If the Breeders’ Cup returns to Santa Anita in '12, it "would mark the sixth time the Arcadia, Calif., track has hosted the event." The track recently hosted the event in '08 and '09 (BLOODHORSE.com, 8/3).
