McDonald's Names Dara Torres Global Ambassador For '12 Olympics Program

McDonald's signed U.S. Gold Medal-winning swimmer Dara Torres as its global ambassador for its "Champion of Play" program before, during and after the '12 London Games. The program, which will promote balanced eating and exercise and be the centerpiece of McDonald's marketing efforts leading up to the Olympics, will give selected kids a chance to attend the Olympics, tour the athlete village and play with athletes on their respective fields of play. For example, they would have a chance to swim with Torres in London. McDonald's Exec VP & Global Chief Brand Officer Kevin Newell said the company's goal is "to get millions of families around the world to get fully engaged in balanced eating and the fun of play." McDonald's expects to serve 1.75 million guests at four restaurants at the Olympic site during the '12 Games. It will staff those McDonald's with 2,000 of its top employees selected from restaurants around the world. McDonald's will serve a new line of wraps, including the Grilled Chicken Salad Wrap and a Sweet Chili Crispy Chicken Wrap, that are already available in the U.K.
