Amar'e Stoudemire Signs New Deal With Nike, Announces Choice On Twitter

Knicks F Amar’e Stoudemire posted a video on his Twitter feed yesterday afternoon to announce that he has signed an extension of his shoe deal with Nike. Stoudemire, who has more than 326,000 followers on Twitter, has posted several messages in recent weeks about deciding on a shoe partner. In yesterday’s 26-second video, Stoudemire signed a contract while wearing Nike gear and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s been official. I have now signed an extension of my shoe contract with the great shoe company, Nike. Stay tuned for more exclusive footage." Stoudemire had signed the previous deal in September '05 (THE DAILY). On Long Island, Alan Hahn cited a source as saying that the new contract "will keep Stoudemire in Nikes for another five years and will keep him as one of Nike Basketball's biggest stars." As part of the extension, Stoudemire "will still get some coveted exposure to the lucrative Asian market via Nike Basketball, which is planning a tour to China in August." Hahn noted Nike "has been a huge sponsor of Stoudemire's annual basketball academy" (NEWSDAY.com, 7/6).
