South Carolina Fans Scramble To Buy Gamecock Gear After CWS Title

After the Univ. of South Carolina won its second consecutive College World Series title Tuesday night, The College Shoppe Owner Dennis Edwards picked up "as much merchandise as he could" for his store in Rock Hill, S.C., according to Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill HERALD. After "learning from last year's demand, Edwards pre-ordered 144 T-shirts, and they were gone by lunch time Wednesday." His employees "threw the doors open two hours early Wednesday to accommodate customers trying to be the first in line." Edwards planned to drive to Augusta, Ga., "to pick up more from printers," and there is "another shipment of a different style coming from Pennsylvania on Friday." He said, "We probably sold about 600 shirts last year. ... We do good business on South Carolina and Clemson during the football season and at Christmas, but I never expected to sell that many" (Rock Hill HERALD, 6/30). Eat More Tees employee Kevin Schumacher said that his company in Columbia, S.C., "began printing 448 'National Champions' shirts almost as soon as the game ended Tuesday night" (WISTV.com, 6/29). South Carolina-based retailer Palmetto Moon co-Owner Robert Webster estimated that USC's title would "double their sales within 24 hours" (ABCNEWS4.com, 6/30).

WEST COAST CUSTOMS: In Colorado, Brittany Anas reports at Univ. of Colorado retailers around Boulder this week, "Pac-12 shirts were being unpacked and embargoed to go on sale Friday" as CU makes its official move to the conference. T-Galaxy Manager Nina Razo predicted a design that features images of all Pac-12 helmets will be the "hottest seller." Razo expects a "shirt that has the Buffs' 2011 football schedule printed on the back will also go fast." Where the Buffalo Roam Manager Paul Johansen said that the store "received two dozen hats with the Pac-12 logo on them that immediately sold out." In addition, the CU bookstore "has been taking pre-orders online for Pac-12 shirts" (BOULDER DAILY CAMERA, 7/1).
