Final Nielsen Ratings: CONCACAF Gold Cup Audience Scoring Big On Univision

Univision averaged 4.2 million viewers for the Mexico-El Salvador CONCACAF Gold Cup match last Sunday night from 8:06-10:12pm ET, marking the sixth most-viewed sports telecast on TV last week, behind only the three NBA Finals telecasts, NASCAR Sprint Cup from Kansas Speedway and NHL Stanley Cup Final Game One. Telefutura also earned 940,000 viewers for the U.S.-Canada match this past Tuesday from 8:00-10:00pm. Through six Gold Cup telecasts to date, Univision, Telefutura and Galavision are averaging 1.4 million viewers, up 38.7% from 1.0 million viewers through the same period during the ’09 tournament.

FROM PARIS WITH LOVE: NBC finished with a 2.1 rating and 3.1 million viewers for Rafael Nadal’s win over Roger Federer last Sunday in the French Open men’s final from 9:00am-2:10pm, up 50% and 68%, respectively, from Nadal’s win over Robin Soderling in last year’s final. This year’s Nadal-Federer match was also up from a 1.5 rating and 2.0 million viewers for the ’08 finale, which was the last time the pair met at Roland Garros. NBC also earned a 1.4 rating and 2.0 million viewers for Li Na’s victory over Francesca Schiavone last Saturday, flat compared to Schiavone’s win over Sam Stosur last year.

KEEP ON TRUCKIN’: Speed earned a 0.7 U.S. rating and 956,000 viewers for last Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 from 2:00-4:40pm, marking the highest-rated Truck Series race ever from Kansas Speedway. The telecast was also up from the comparable race last year from Texas Motor Speedway, which aired on a Friday night.

The chart below lists final Nielsen ratings from recent sports telecasts. All ratings listed are U.S. ratings. Figures for the WNBA season opener last Saturday on ABC were unavailable at presstime.
