What's Up For The Weekend With PepsiCo Dir of Sports Marketing Mark Rooks

Ever wonder how executives in sports business spend their weekends? THE DAILY this week continues "What's Up For The Weekend," providing readers with an inside look at people in our industry. This week PepsiCo Dir of Sports Marketing MARK ROOKS chats with Staff Writer Theresa Manahan.

Q: What are your plans for this weekend?
Rooks: Besides catching up on “to-do's,” my wife and I will be bowling against my best friends and their wives/girlfriends for summer bragging rights.

Q: What are you really looking forward to?
Rooks: I’m really hoping I can steal a few hours to enjoy some golf. The weather and my schedule just haven’t been on my side so far this year.

Q: What do you like to watch and read on the weekend?
Rooks: We recently rescued our dog Walker, a Bluetick Coonhound, so I plan to finish reading “Inside of a Dog,” by ALEXANDRA HOROWITZ, to try to figure him out just a little bit. Oh, and we’re now addicted to HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” so on Sunday night we’ll be glued to our couch and watching HBO.

Q: What workout routines or activities do you like to do on the weekend?
Rooks: I recently had my knee scoped, so my workouts have been limited to a little stationary bike riding and light weightlifting. Did I already mention golf? Oh, and our weekend mornings are spent at the local dog run, where we watch our dog chase, sniff and wrestle all the other dogs.

Q: What is the one thing our readers would be most surprised to find that you love to do on your weekends?
Rooks: I don’t do it nearly as much as I’d like to, but I love to cook and entertain. We eat out most nights, but cooking a meal and hosting family and friends is high on my list of things I enjoy.

Q: Favorite beverage on the weekend besides your company’s?
Rooks: Starbucks Pike Place Roast in the morning! Oh, and the occasional Cuba Libre made with ice cold, zero calorie Pepsi Max and light rum in the evening.

Q: Best weekend ever?
Rooks: Just experienced it over this past Memorial Day weekend. Hung out with family, school buddies and friends and enjoyed a relaxing BBQ complete with old school hip-hop and R&B. It was a complete blast.

Q: Guilty weekend pleasure?
Rooks: Having a few beers with friends and watching my favorite teams on the big screen at the neighborhood sports bar.

Q: Favorite local restaurant?
Rooks: We spend a lot of time at Chez Oskar for brunch and dinner. Really good crème brulee.

Q: What is your favorite local nightlife activity?
Rooks: We really enjoy watching movies both in theatres and at home. Nice escape for a few hours and my wife and I can generally agree on which movie to see.
