Jets, Giants Hire Former AmEx Boss Al Kelly As CEO Of '14 Super Bowl

The Giants and Jets today announced that they have hired former American Express President AL KELLY as CEO of the New York/New Jersey 2014 Super Bowl Host Committee, according to Tom Rock of NEWSDAY. Kelly's role will be to "oversee the preparations for the first open-air, cold-weather Super Bowl in NFL history" (NEWSDAY.com, 4/18). Kelly said that he was "attracted by the chance to help organize a game that last year became the most-watched television broadcast in U.S. history." Jets Owner WOODY JOHNSON, co-Chair of the Super Bowl Host Committee along with Giants Treasurer JONATHAN TISCH, said in a statement, "We believe we have secured one of the best minds in the business world to guide us as we set out on this historic endeavor." BLOOMBERG NEWS' Aaron Kuriloff notes Kelly resigned from AmEx in October '09 to "seek a top job at another company." Prior to his departure, he "rose to lead day-to-day operations for American Express’s consumer business, including credit cards, customer service and global banking, after starting at the company in 1987 in the strategic planning department" (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 4/18).
