Let's Just Be Friends: Mark Teixeira Splits From Longtime Agent Scott Boras

Teixeira (l) joins Rodriguez (r) as second Yankee to leave Boras in past year
Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira yesterday announced he has "severed ties with longtime agent Scott Boras," according to Peter Botte of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. Teixeira, who is entering the third year of an eight-year, $180M deal signed in December '08, said Boras "obviously has done a lot for my career ... but sometimes I felt like I was Mark Teixeira, Scott Boras client, and not Mark Teixeira, baseball player." He added that his "business relationship with Boras had 'run its course,' but said he has yet to hire a new representative" (NYDAILYNEWS.com, 3/2). Teixeira said that Boras "will continue to collect his percentage of the first baseman's salary." Boras has repped Teixeira for his entire MLB career (NJ.com, 3/2). In N.Y., Pat Borzi reported Teixeira is looking for "someone to handle his charitable endeavors and business interests more than a negotiator." He said that he "began thinking about dropping Boras last year, when he hired a different organization to manage his charitable work." Teixeira's efforts include a "foundation that provides scholarships to high school students, and raising money for the Harlem RBI program for children." Teixeira joins 3B Alex Rodriguez as the "second Yankee in less than a year to split with Boras" (NYTIMES.com, 3/2).
