Bin Hammam will formally announce decision on FIFA presidency within 10 days
Asian Football Confederation President MOHAMED BIN HAMMAM "gave his broadest hint yet that he will oppose" FIFA President SEPP BLATTER's bid for re-election in May. Bin Hammam, who also serves as Chair of the FIFA Goal Bureau, said he will formally announce his decision "within 10 days." Hammam: "People have to try change. Change is good" (GUARDIAN.co.uk, 3/10).

: In Indianapolis, Jeff Rabjohns profiles Big Ten Commissioner JIM DELANY, who is in his 22nd season in the position. Delany has steered the conference "through two expansions, the creation of the first league-owned television network and into revenue growth that far outpaces other conferences." He is "highly regarded as a smart consensus builder, someone with a deft touch." Delany "knows when to step on the gas and when to ease off," and his voice "carries nationally." Indiana Univ. COURT REPORT: In K.C., Mark Morris reports Jackson County (Mo.) jurors yesterday "deliberated a little more than an hour before finding that the Royals were not responsible for injuries suffered by a Kansas man who was hit in the eye by a foil-wrapped hotdog at a September 2009 game." The incident occurred when the team's mascot stood on the dugout roof and fired "bubble-wrapped hotdogs into the stands with an air cannon." The fan, JOHN COOMER, "suffered a detached retina and has undergone three surgeries," and he "wanted the Royals to pay his expenses" (K.C. STAR, 3/10).

IN MEMORY: SANDY SHAW, the longtime PA Announcer for the Tigers at their Spring Training home in Lakeland, Fla., passed away Tuesday at the age of 81. Shaw also worked as a senior media relations rep for the Single-A Florida State League Lakeland Flying Tigers (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 3/10).
