News Corp. yesterday announced that the company has promoted Chair & CEO for Europe and Asia JAMES MURDOCH to Deputy COO and Int'l Chair & CEO. Sources said that the new role "could prepare him to eventually run the media conglomerate." Murdoch, who will relocate to the company's N.Y. HQs, is the "most actively involved of CEO RUPERT MURDOCH's children in the company." James Murdoch "has been overseeing New Corp.'s European and Asian operations from London," and he "will continue to oversee those international businesses while deepening his involvement in other parts of the company, including its Los Angeles-based entertainment businesses." The move "establishes him as the third-most senior executive at the company," behind his father and COO CHASE CAREY (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 3/31).

EXECS: The Empire Sports & Entertainment Holdings Co. yesterday announced the departure of President & COO GREG COHEN (The Empire)....The MLS Philadelphia Union have named manager PETER NOWAK Exec VP/Soccer Operations and manager (Union)....Coyotes VP/Marketing & Communications JIM BREWER "has stepped down" from his position (BIZJOURNALS.com, 3/28)....The T'Wolves have hired Univ. of Chicago Human Resources Administrator ALECIA ROSE as Dir of HR (THE DAILY)....The MLS Crew have hired TOM BOWDEN as Dir of Fan Retention and BOBBY CAMILLERI as Season Ticket Account Exec (Crew).
