AEG, Medalist Sport Combine On Series Of Qualifying Events For Colorado Race
Published February 3, 2011
AEG and Medalist Sports event management will debut an amateur mountain-bike racing series in '11 that will serve as qualifying events for Colorado’s popular Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race. The series will consist of three events -- one in California, Colorado and the Northeast -- and the events will provide top finishers with guaranteed entry into the Aug. 13 race in Leadville. Dates and locations for the qualifying events have yet to be set. The Leadville Trail 100 gained fame when seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong finished second there in '08 and won the event in '09. The Life Time Fitness health club chain sponsors the Leadville 100, which formerly awarded its 1,400 entries by lottery only. AEG and Medalist currently produce the Amgen Tour of California, the nation’s largest professional cycling race.
