Ray Evernham Files $19M Lawsuit Against Former Partner George Gillett

RAY EVERNHAM has filed a $19M lawsuit “against companies operated by former partner GEORGE GILLETT over unpaid shares of the former Richard Petty Motorsports,” according to Bob Pockrass of SCENEDAILY.com. Evernham filed the lawsuit in North Carolina Superior Court in Charlotte. The company that ran the NASCAR team, Gillett GEMS, and Gillett’s Booth Creek Management Corporation are “listed as the defendants.” Evernham in his complaint “asks for $19,183,203 he claims he is owed after the sale of RPM last November to RICHARD PETTY and a group of investors.” Evernham claims that “once RPM was sold, it triggered clauses in his agreements with Gillett for him to be paid that money.” According to the complaint, creditors of the old RPM “have been told there are not sufficient funds for reimbursement” (SCENEDAILY.com, 2/23). Evernham, after “being released from his non-compete clause in the terms of his contract with Gillett, recently accepted a position as a consultant for Hendrick Performance Parts” (ESPN.com, 2/23).
