Alaska Airlines, Univ. of Washington Near Deal For Arena Naming Rights

Bank of America had title-sponsored UW's arena for 10 years
Univ. of Washington interim President Phyllis Wise and the school's athletic department have "cleared the way" for Alaska Airlines to receive naming rights to the school's Hec Edmundson Pavilion, "pending Board of Regents approval tomorrow," according to Ravi Venkataraman of UW student newspaper THE DAILY. Alaska Airlines "offered a five-year deal" worth approximately $6.1M. A Board of Regents document indicated that the airline offered UW "$400,000 in cash annually, $25,000 in travel benefits, 20 MVP gold memberships -- which are valued between $5,000 and $10,000 each -- and $175,000 per year for additional sponsorship opportunities" with IMG College, "a third party company that sells broadcast and sponsorship rights." Should the deal be approved, the pavilion's court "will feature the company's logo in addition to the naming rights." Venkataraman notes Bank of America's 10-year, $9.1M naming-rights deal for the arena expired last April (THE DAILY, 1/19).
