The majority of non-BCS bowl telecasts this season saw a drop in viewership compared to a year ago. ESPN and ESPN2 combined to average 3.704 million viewers across 26 non-BCS bowl games this year, down 10.9% from 4.158 million viewers last year. ESPN's Florida State-South Carolina Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year's Eve was the net's top non-BCS bowl game, averaging 7.492 million viewers. The Army-SMU Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl finished as the least-viewed bowl game this season with 1.898 million viewers Dec. 30 on ESPN. Fox averaged 10.0 million viewers for its lone bowl telecast, LSU's 41-24 win over Texas A&M Friday in the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic. It was the first Cotton Bowl to air in primetime and it drew the best audience ever for the game. It also gave Fox its best Friday night since New Year's Day last year. CBS' lone bowl telecast was the Notre Dame-Miami matchup in the Hyundai Sun Bowl, which earned 4.609 million viewers, down 8.2% from the Oklahoma-Stanford matchup last year. Among all non-BCS games, the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl on ESPN saw the sharpest decline. The net averaged 2.5 million viewers this past Sunday night for the Nevada-Boston College matchup, down 66.9% from the USC-Boston College game last year. The Insight Bowl saw the biggest jump, as the telecast migrated from NFL Network to ESPN this season. The Iowa-Missouri matchup drew 3.558 million viewers, up 429% from 673,000 viewers for Iowa State-Minnesota last year.
