The NHL drops the puck on the ’10-11 season today hoping to sustain the momentum built from last year, when the league benefited from a compelling Olympic tournament and the success of tradition-rich franchises. But the league faces many crucial decisions in the coming year. The NHL will begin negotiations with the NHLPA on a new CBA, and with Don Fehr expected to take the helm at the union, the league could be in for a long battle. The NHL also is in the market for a new TV contract with its Versus and NBC deals expiring at the end of the season.
