Filming PSAs For St. Jude's Children's Hospital
The Cowboys have established a $1M marketing partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help fight against breast cancer. They have started the "I Promise" campaign in which they call upon fans to "make personal promises designed to raise awareness for the fight about breast cancer." The Cowboys will introduce radio and TV PSAs, among other initiatives (DALLASNEWS.com, 8/31)....Fox Sports has teamed up with St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital to help children who are stricken with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Several Fox NFL personalities, including TROY AIKMAN, TERRY BRADSHAW, JOE BUCK, JAY GLAZER and MICHAEL STRAHAN, filmed a series of PSAs that will air throughout the entire NFL season (Fox Sports).
CHARITY STRIPE: LOCOG CEO PAUL DEIGHTON has been awarded a bonus of about US$464,000 and he is "donating the full sum to charity" (TELEGRAPH.co.uk, 8/31)....Magic C DWIGHT HOWARD on Sept. 15 will co-host "Concert for a Cause ... Remembering Haiti" at the House of Blues in Orlando. MY WORLD: Last night's edition of ABC's "SHAQ VS." featured Celtics C SHAQUILLE O’NEAL competing against singer Justin Bieber and ABC's Jimmy Kimmel. Bieber defeated O'Neal in a team pickup basketball game and won the right to take O'Neal's private jet anywhere he wanted. Kimmel also won, besting O’Neal in a competition to write and perform the best monologue ("Shaq Vs.," ABC, 8/31).
NAMES: On Long Island, Josh Stewart profiles NFL Senior VP/PR GREG AIELLO, whose Twitter account has become "much more commonplace" as a news source than an actual league press release. Aiello said, "It's like a wire service now, so if I want to get something out today, the quickest way would be Twitter.
