The Magic yesterday announced a multiyear deal with Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack whiskey brand, which now will serve as the official sponsor for the Terrace Level patio bar at the new Amway Center. In addition to titling the Gentleman Jack Terrace, the brand will be designated as the team's official North American whiskey and will receive digital signage at the venue (Magic).
IT'S MY PARTY! In Ft. Lauderdale, Sarah Talalay reported Party City will sponsor the "coverings on upper level seats that have been added to reduce capacity and create a more intimate setting at BankAtlantic Center" during NHL Panthers games. The blue coverings "reduce the number of seats" in the arena by nearly 2,500, but "can be removed should there be demand." Talalay wrote, "The idea is to generate revenue, but I wonder if the sponsor -- especially one promoting parties -- doesn’t bring more attention to the fact that no one’s sitting in those seats" (SUN-SENTINEL.com, 8/30).
LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE: In Detroit, Mike Brudenell reports the UFC "looks almost certain to visit" the Palace of Auburn Hills on Nov. 20. Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission Chair Dr. James Weber yesterday said that the UFC "has inked the date and will bring to town some of its best fighters." Weber: "My understanding is that it is a done deal." The UFC last visited Detroit in '96 (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 9/1).
